Springbank 15 Year Old Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky 46%
Springbank 15 Year Old is a rich, full-bodied Campbeltown single malt produced at the historic Springbank Distillery, where whisky has been made since 1828. Springbank is unusual in retaining a highly traditional, hands-on approach to production, and its house style is lightly peated and distilled approximately 2.5 times, creating a distinctive combination of weight, texture, gentle smoke and maritime character.
The 15 Year Old is matured entirely in Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 46% ABV, giving it a darker, richer profile than the younger Springbank expressions. The nose is bold and savoury, with dried fruit, prunes, clove, mint, iodine and meaty, smoky notes, alongside the characteristic coastal influence associated with Campbeltown.
On the palate it is viscous and deeply flavoured, showing sooty peat smoke, tobacco leaf, figs, prunes, walnuts, Demerara sugar, cocoa and smoked-meat notes. The sherry maturation adds richness and concentration while the underlying peat and maritime character keep the whisky balanced rather than overly sweet.
The finish is long and developing, with lingering soot, leather and walnut, gradually softening into a dry, coastal conclusion. A classic old-school Campbeltown whisky, Springbank 15 offers considerably more sherry influence and depth than the 10 Year Old while retaining the oily texture, gentle peat and distinctive Springbank character that have made the distillery so sought after.
Longrow Peated Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky 46% ABV
Longrow Peated is the heavily peated expression produced at the historic Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown. The name comes from the long-closed Longrow Distillery, which once stood close to Springbank; Longrow whisky itself was first produced in 1973 as a richer, smokier spirit and has been made regularly since the 1990s. Unlike the more gently peated Springbank style, Longrow is heavily peated and double distilled, giving it a fuller, oilier and distinctly smoky character.
Matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks and bottled at 46% ABV, Longrow Peated combines robust peat smoke with plenty of sweetness and richness. The nose opens with creamy vanilla custard, followed by gradually developing smoke, toasted marshmallow, herbs and ripe fruit. On the palate it is rich, rounded and creamy, with persistent peat smoke and underlying sweetness. The finish is long and warming, with the smoke lingering well after each sip.
It is an excellent introduction to the more powerful side of Campbeltown whisky: distinctly smoky, but with the depth, texture and balance for which Springbank is renowned.
